April's "Roni the Cook" Dinner at Prinz Albert, Saturday, 29th April 2006

We have had a change of venue for the April dinner, so please read about the new (better) place for next week's dinner! :o)

Looks like the Italian evening is not to be as we could not arrange to get a sensible menu from Al Contadino and so we have reluctantly decided to alter our plans for the evening. This is the first time we had to do this, and it is really regrettable, but... you will not regret the choice of restaurant that we have selected for you for April!

So, let's start from the beginning again. The cook is a chap called Roni, a real friendly character from Florida, USA and a pretty good cook in my opinion. He likes cooking and he likes inventing dishes (or at least that's what he tells me!) and he likes making friends. I was there recently and the food is original, generous and tasty and (if you insist) he can also do Italian as well, but I have decided to let him organise a surprise fixed price menu for us - with a couple of options for those of you who don't like fish. He can even do a vegetarian option as well, so nobody has any excuses for not turning
up. The ambience is pretty cool as the place has been refurbished not too long ago, and it's a lot easier to find than the original Italian place (and a lot cheaper as well). It is a place that one should really sample while in Berlin, especially from a cook as passionate as Roni. By the way, the dinner menu is fixed at 25 Euro per person, excluding drinks, and from the hints given, I really don't think you will regret it!

So please now note that the new location for the April dinner is the Prinz Albert, Veteranenstrasse 10, 10119 Berlin. It's easy to find and the nearest U-Bahns are Rosenthaler Platz and Bernauer Strasse. Let me know asap if you want to join as there are very few places left. As before, the place is not a million miles away from Oranienburgerstrasse, so we can have quite a few alternative plans for
what to do after dinner as well. Oh-oh...

How it went on the night...

The general (overwhelming) feeling is that everyone had a great night out! Roni was in top form and the food was superb! Extracts from emails to me afterwards:

"I really enjoyed Saturday at the Prinz Albert"
"I liked the last dinner and I especially liked... <snip>"
"had a lot of fun on saturday....a very late night indeed!" - from anonymous 3am lady
"The dinner last Saturday was absolutely GREAT!! I really loved it."

"It was a 4 course meal with a couple of small additions from Roni - like lovely mint sorbet before the main course. Main course was a selection from zander, cordon blue or rack of lamb; lamb was wonderful, I should note :)"

Mega thanks and congrats are therefore in order for Roni (a cook sure to be going places soon!), and also for Yulia who introduced us to him. And Yulia also played host and took the pics as well. What a girl!

So, onwards to the pictures, and here they are!
