Modern Art & Dinner, Sat 18th April 2009

For April we have organised a quite unusual dinner, one which you would not nornally get to try as it is a special combination of modern art and fine cuisine prepared by one of the top cooks from Baden-Baden. As it is special event planned only for the Dinner Club, we do need some help from you as we need to know in advance how many people are coming. The place is in a room at a private art gallery where "living" art will be presented throughout the dinner. The theme is water, in particular riverine videos shot by Philipp Geist, a famous video artist who has shown his work around the world. The cook is Ulrich Krauss, an experienced cook from one of the elite restaurants in Baden-Baden.

We have negotiated a special deal for a 4-course dinner which includes water and matching wines for each course for an all-inclusive price of 45 Euro, excluding tip. The menu offered is as follows, although we can arrange something alternative if you really don't like fish. Just let me know, ok?

The address is Brunnenstraße 9a (Hinterhof), 10119 Berlin, which is close to where I used to work in Berlin. The gallery's dining room is reasonably roomy so we can handle a slightly larger dinner party than usual, so you can invite some friends and family along to this unique dinner if you like. If you want to know more details, the website is http://www.zagreus.net/

As I said, this is an unusual, cool dinner event organised specially for the Dinner Club so please help us finalise things with the gallery by responding by Tuesday 31st of March as we need to confirm numbers by the first week of April latest. If we don't get a certain minimum number, then we will have to cancel and have some kebabs at some local imbiss around Kreuzberg, so you now know the situation! :o)

See you soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

Entering Zagreus was a bit of a shock to some as we had to almost crawl into a pretty rough-looking building site but this kind of set the tone for the evening, which was basically a night of gentle surprises. I had just expected a gallery with a dining table in it and that is mostly what we got, but the projected videos all around the room gave it a surreal effect and somehow made people a touch more chatty as it was a little unusual. The food was good, not overly fancy, but good. The wines went down well with the fish theme and everyone had a good time, especially me who got to eat a couple of fish heads. Yummy. Afterwards, some of us strolled up to Tarantino's where we admired the samurai swords and the strength of the cocktails. Oh well...
