Dinner & Dancing at the Bangaluu, Saturday 17 February 2007

Since the weather has been so dull and damp and chilly, I thought that maybe we can combine a bit of fine dining with some dancing in February. And if we are going to do that, then why don't we do it at one of the newest coolest locations in Berlin?

So on offer for February is a
10-course gourmet menu for a price that starts at 39 Euro. This place has a strange system in that if you book early, then the price begins at 39 Euro but if you book late, then the price climbs up and up from there. Anyway, as it is a Saturday, there is also some live entertainment during the night (although I have not seen it myself), and Berlin Hitsradio 104,6 RTL apparently also broadcasts from this club so it must be a pretty cool joint. However, the opinions about the quality of dining is quite varied, ranging from excellent value to only about average. I don't know myself as I could not make the sampling dinner this time.

The best part is that there is a cool dance floor with very good music for dancing after dinner, and since we will be there with the Dinner Club, we don't have to pay the 10 Euro entrance fee! So we can boogey all night to get rid of the calories. The not-so-good bit is that the drinks and especially the wines there are very expensive, more than at normal Berlin restaurants, so if you fancy a few cocktails or an aperitif or two, plus a couple of bottles of wine, then bring lots of spare cash along. A glass of red wine there is 9 Euro, for example, so you have been warned. But the price of the 10-course dinner is really very reasonable at 39 Euro (or more).

Despite the name, please note that the place is NOT an Indian restaurant. The location is called the Bangaluu at Invalidenstr. 30, 10115 Berlin. My best suggestion would be to check out their website, www.bangaluu.com, so that you can get a flavour of the atmosphere and what to expect. I think you will like it! :o)

For this event, the place is already pretty well booked out, so we have only a limited number of places available, around 12 in total. The closing date for sending in your request to attend this event is 31st January and people with confirmed places will be notified 1st-2nd February latest. If I get a lot of early responses, then I will try to change the size of the booking, so it is still worth getting your emails in to me as soon as possible! My email is as usual, chris@berlindinnerclub.com

Hope to see you all for another fun evening!

Chris

How it went on the night...

The Bangaluu  will, in all likelihood, never achieve a Michelin star but that's probably at least due to the improprietary nature of dining here. There was not a great selection of wines, but the Chilean Cabernet was pretty good, though not cheap. The dishes came at somewhat disjointed intervals but they were adequate portions and generally pretty tasty stuff, though the cook has used a little too much salt a few times. The staff were pretty quite efficient and friendly and generally helpful, bringing our dinner diligently even if it meant crawling over the beds. Puzzled? Well, I'll let the pictures tell the story of a pretty unusual night!
