Change of Venue for the July BBQ, Saturday 29th July 2006

We were supposed to be doing a Roni Special BBQ for July but due to a long-term illness, Roni is now unable to handle this. We wish him all the best but the special BBQ event originally planned for this month is now not possible.

So in place of that, we have relocated the July BBQ dinner to a seriously cool venue, 40 Seconds in Potsdamer Strasse 58. The good news are that it has a pretty spectacular view from the rooftop terrace, it's a eat-all-you-can event, and on top of that, it actually also costs less. The bad news is that the BBQ is probably not going to be as spectacular as Roni's culinary inventions but it is still a pretty decent menu, as follows:

Starter and salads

Grilled vegetables and mushrooms with olive oil
Tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and basil
Salad of three various types of beans a herbal vinaigrette
Chinese noodles with cashew cores and coriander
Steierischer potato salad with core oil
Mediterranean noodle salad with pepper and pine nuts

Grilled Stuff

Argentinean hip-bone steak
Neck of pork from Brandenburg
Spicy grilles sausages
Noisette of lamb in rosemary oil
French merguez
Salmon steak from the North Sea
A spit of scampis

Various dips ,sauces and different kind of breads

Desserts

Two types of chocolate mousse
Semolina flummery with a ragout of berries
Strawberry groats with rhubarb

Not too bad for an eat-all-you-can event, I think you'd agree. Further good news is that the place also has a disco so people can chill out and boogie the calories off afterwards if they can still move. So, all in all, not a bad replacement venue. If you wish, their website is www.40seconds.de (please turn the sound off immediately!)

Anyway, as a result of the change in venue, we are re-starting the July BBQ Dinner Club list again, so anyone who wants to come for this special BBQ on Saturday, 29th July, please email me as soon as possible at chris@berlindinnerclub.com. It's quite a biggish place so we can have a large crowd as well so bring your friends and partners along if you like but don't risk any delay so please get your emails in to me now!

See you all soon!

Chris

How it went on the night...

I think everyone would agree that there are many, many ways to spend an evening in Berlin but this was definitely one of the better ones. The food was good, lots of lovely interesting salads and sauces and well complemented by the meats (lamb, pork and beef) and fish (salmon and scampi), especially the large tiger prawns barbequed in their shells. The desserts were generous and lots of people (no names mentioned) even managed to sneak in 3 helpings. Nobody left hungry, that is for sure! Even our youngest member had a great time. The service was well organised, polite and efficient, and lots of people have said that they would like to go back to 40 Seconds with friends another time, so it's a great thumbs-up for the place.

Afterwards, quite a few of us bopped our way at the Dance Party until we were dehydrated or exhausted or suffered an overcoming of emotion. Oh well. Onwards to the next DC dinner...
