Brunch at Sachs, Sunday 11:00AM, 8th July 2007

After staggering home bleary-eyed at 03:00 last weekend after the June BBQ, I kept wondering WHY I do this to myself all the time...

Anyway, I had the good fortune to attend a brunch the next day at probably the best brunch place in Berlin and it made me feel immeasurably better so I thought that perhaps other members of the Dinner Club might like to know this place. So for the July "dinner", we will actually be doing BRUNCH at Sachs, Knesebeckstr. 29, 10623 Berlin at 11:00AM on Sunday, 8th July 2007. So it's not a dinner for July but a hearty stuff-your-face-till-you-drop, recover-after-all-the-drinks meal to kick off Sunday.

There is always a handsome buffet at Sachs, and they cook your eggs to order and they are always really well-done. Many of the dishes are quite unusual and seen only at Sachs. The really good news is that the price for all the food you can eat is only 12 Euro, and that includes a nice glass of prosecco. I have been to many brunch places in Berlin and this place is still top of my list of must-go brunch restaurants. The other good news is that the place has lots of room, so if it does rain, then we will all be assured of a warm comfy room inside. Else we will be sitting outside on a quiet street.

I know this is very short notice but I am having serious problems with my dates in Berlin this July, so to be fair, email requests will be taken until Thursday evening, 5th July and the lucky dozen or so people that make it on the list will be informed by Friday, 6th July. The email address, as usual, is chris@berlindinnerclub.com

After brunch, I was thinking that we might stroll over to the Zoo to see Knut (is that the right spelling?) Or maybe we can visit the Newton Museum. Whatever you people decide on the day is fine with me.

See you soon!

Chris

How it went on the day...

On Saturday, a nice brunch on Sunday sitting outside in the sunshine looked doomed, and even the restaurant called to make contingency plans to have the event indoors. But, by a miracle, Sunday started out bright and sunny and stayed that way all day, making it one of the nicest days of the year so far. The food at Sachs was, as usual, very good and very copious, and a few people are starting to appreciate my idea for a restaurant wheelchair rental service after brunch. Service was good, and so was the complimentary prosecco and there was a wide selection of dishes which they kept topping up and making minor changes to every 30 minutes or so. The omelettes were great - moist and tasty and a few people got their own after stealing bits from mine. I guess it is safe to say that in the end everybody waddled off very satisfied and happy! After brunch, a few of the more intrepid members managed to walk all the way to the Englischer Garten in the Tiergarten to watch a couple of live jazz bands and sip a few more drinks. Overall, it scored as close to a perfect Berlin summer's day that one can hope for. We even saw a few nudists sunbathing in the Tiergarten, but they were all gay men so I had to deduct a few points from the day's score for that.
