Thai Private Vice Den Cellar Buffet, Thursday, 25 March 2004

For the March event, we have been invited by Bradley Mitton (Mitton Wines) to have a private buffet dinner at his cool little basement wine cellar in Mitte, which is not even a restaurant at all. This is an interesting event, starting with yet another really good value eat-and-drink-all-you-want bash, with the food home-cooked and catered by a native Thai lady (Brad's wife, Nikki)! The tentative menu is simple but worthwhile, as follows:

Oriental Vegetables with Soy Sauce and Ginger (for you vegetarians)
Spring Rolls
Mixed Seafood Salad with Shallots
Pork Dumplings with Coconut Cream
Green Curry Chicken with Eggplant
Roasted Duck with Egg Noodles
Thai Fried Rice with Sesame Pork

plus dessert of some unknown nature. There will be both white and red wine to accompany the dinner and the invitation says that you can drink as much as you want, as long as you can still climb up the stairs to go home afterwards. Now comes the interesting part. After dinner, it is planned to have a little casino, with everyone getting a few bucks in fake money which they can gamble on blackjack, poker or spoof, and the person ending up with the most money wins a bottle of rather excellent wine! There will be music all night as well, so it should be a simple fun evening out for everyone. If people can still manage it, there are cool clubs nearby afterwards as well. The location is in Oranienburgerstrasse 87, so it is central and convenient for transport. The price is very reasonable at 20 EUR per person for all-you-can-eat-and-drink. But the invitation requires that at least 20 people turn up for this event, which is why we are advertising this invitation event a little earlier than usual. But please note that if you do sign up, then you must pay the 20 EUR to Mitton Wines, even if you don't turn up. That's one of the rules of the invitation. So be a little warned about this, ok?

So if you are interested in coming along (and why not?), the email, as usual, is chris@berlindinnerclub.com

For the rest of spring/early summer, we have some rather interesting ideas, including a knights' dinner at a large ancient castle, and, of course, we must do the French event that we've been thinking of for so long, and then there's an excellent new (and inexpensive) Vietnamese place that's opened recently, so if you like your food, just stay in touch here...

How it went on the night

Well, as nights go, it was pretty OK. With all the free wine, we probably drank more than we ate, and then we probably stayed later than we should but then, who's perfect? Not me, that's for sure. And a very few of us actually managed to crawl out to the Kula Karma for even more drinks afterwards in a daring attempt to see how much our livers can take in one night!

Anyway, just to totally confuse you, I've also included pictures, not just from the cellar night, but also from an earlier dinner with the Dudek brothers. No, not the Czech acrobatic troop, but Ray's brothers, visiting Berlin for a few days.
