Short Notice Dinner at Nussbaumerin, Friday 15 March 2013

This month's dinner is a test of how keen you really are, as an esteemed member of the Berlin Dinner Club. Will you drop everything this Friday evening to come and have a great dinner at a fine restaurant? Or will you just choose to (i) pretend you haven't seen this email (ii) delete this email to hide your guilt, (iii) re-read this email wistfully as you already have a family/work/social dinner that evening, or (iv) come anyway as you never want to miss one of our eclectic dinners? The correct answer is (iv), by the way.

Anyway, the dinner planned for this Friday, 15 March will be at Nussbaumerin, probably one of the finest Austrian restaurants in Berlin - and that is saying something as there are indeed many other good Austrian places in town already. But the fact that many Austrians come here to spend their money (and it's often booked out) indicates that this place is a little special - if I am not 11.000 km away, I will be there chomping away as I love good Austrian food. And a schnitzel once won me a lot of money and possessions which Kirstin is currently managing for me - ask her if you are interested as it is a long unlikely story involving schnitzel and pigs.

If you want to check the restaurant out, their website is http://www.nussbaumerin.de/ and there are countless good reviews if you google the place.

So to cut to the chase, please do send an email asap (like, right now!) to Sylvia if you want to enjoy a fine dinner this Friday evening, 15 March. Closing date is Thursday morning on 14 March. Apologies for the (very) short notice but this is due to family pressures and it's also about time we checked how much people really like their food!

Cheers,

Chris (on behalf of Sylvia)

How it went on the night...

Despite the short notice, there was quite a large spontaneous group enjoying the Austrian Food at Nussbaumerin. The restaurant is very lovely and really made you feel immediately at home. About the kitchen, I must say the schnitzel was huge -and I mean, HUGE - and pretty good but to be honest it's not as good as my mother's schnitzel. The same comment applies to the potato salad. So Nussbaumerin 0 Sylvia's Mother 2. Everything else was pretty decently prepared and all the portions were supersized, so some people could not even finish the Kaiserschmarrn. People were pretty happy about the food in general and some said they will be back for sure. As for the wine, the Zweigelt is sort of drinkable but I have had better Austrian wine before - usually with a slightly chubby Chinese man who is not in Berlin at the moment.
