A private dinner at Phoebe's own house on Friday, 2 November 2012

I have always wondered what a chef cooks for himself or herself when alone at home. I mean, would one consider making a simple pasta or a fancy beef wellington? Maybe a baumkuchen, or a pommes souffle or something like http://www.starchefs.com/chefs/FAdria/html/mango_raviolis_f_adria.shtml? How about when a top cook entertains at home? Would it be the same dishes as in a restaurant or would one go the extra mile and cook something much more creative and fun? Well, I don't really know, and I probably won't get to find out for a while - but YOU can very soon.

The reason I won't find out for a while is because I am still here in Malaysia but you are very lucky to be in Berlin and therefore be able to attend a very special dinner cooked by an excellent cook at her own home. I don't know what the menu is yet but it promises to be good as Phoebe will have just come back from Taiwan where she's been shopping and picking up more culinary ideas. We have asked for her to do her best and she has agreed and therefore this promises to be a pretty delightful evening.

I cannot tell you Phoebe's home address yet until after you have booked and paid for the dinner - please understand that this is a specially arranged dinner, and therefore the meal has to be paid in advance as otherwise we will be obliged to pay for no-shows. Her house is in Friedrichshain so it is pretty easy to get there. The fee is 55 EUR for the special dinner and the date for this delicious evening is 7:30pm on Friday 2 November 2012 so please note it in your diary now. Drinks will be extra but they are very moderately priced. If you want to know more about Phoebe, please have a look at http://www.phoebe-berlin.de/

Well, time is passing and if you want to come along for a pretty unique dinner, please drop Sylvia an email as soon as possible - you won't regret it. It's a quirky, fun and unusual night out and the food promises to be even better! :o)

Cheers,

Chris (on behalf of Sylvia)

PS. Oh, by the way, Phoebe is also the name of a satellite of Saturn and has a rather eccentric orbit, taking 18 months to orbit Saturn. It's about 1/16 the size of our moon and there is a high probability that thick layers of ice cover large areas of Phoebe. Not sure why I am mentioning this but it just occurred to me that I know a lot of useless information.

How it went on the night...

We all enjoyed this unusual evening at Phoebe's private supper club (or her house) in Friedrichshain - she does mainland Chinese, Taiwanese and European fusion food. All her combinations were rather unusual and pretty darn tasty. The evening began with some excellent and original appetizers such as deep fried olives with pineapple, flying fish roe and wasabi, quail eggs with green tapenade and fish roe and bocconcini with mint - all served up with some nice sparkling wine.

After that we went to the dining room where the table was perfectly laid and beautifully decorated. There she served us another three different starters of which my favorite was the pan-fried chicken, filled with brown swortbel. Also the main dishes came as little tasting portions, all of them perfectly cooked and nicely styled for the eyes. Almost too good to eat, according to some of us. As for the dessert we had another selection and my favourite was a green bean cake with sesame caramel cookies.

We all had great time and I can only recommend her very highly indeed. It is almost certain that we will be back at Phoebe's as she has also cooked with French michelin star cooks and she says that her French cooking is even better. Wow.
